SISTER ELLEN LOUISE KEATS
Sister Ellen Keats, service number SFX11647, was a serving member of the 10th Australian General Hospital during the Second World War, 1939- 1945. Unfortunately, was a victim in the Bangka Island massacre which followed the sinking of SS Vyner Brooke at Bangka Strait in 1942. The precise place and time of death was Netherlands East Indies: Banka Island, at 16 February 1942. Her final rank was Sister Gp 1.
Sister Ellen Keats began her nursing school at Parkwynd Private Hospital in 1933, upon completion of her course, she was transferred to Adelaide Hospital. On graduation, she was housed at the Adelaide Hospital as a staff sister. Keats enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) in 1941 in which she was posted to the 10th Australian General Hospital.
