However, her luck runs out here. After struggling ashore, they were captured by a group of Japanese patrols. They were grouped together with civilians and other wounded or otherwise disabled soldiers on Radji Beach. Soon later, these soldiers were called to a remote area away from the beach, and gun shoots and screams were heard, with no survivors, they believed to be shot and bayoneted. Not long after this, the nurses, together with another civilian woman, were ordered into the sea as they were machine-gunned. Only one of the nurses survived, Sister Vivienne Bullwinkel, as she layed in the water until the Japanese soldiers left. Unfortunately, Sister Keats did not survive this massacre.
